Media and Civil Society Laws Disappointing, Must Be Reviewed, Ksentini
Head of the National Human Rights Advisory Commission, Farouk Ksentini, admitted that both of the media law and the civil society law are disappointing, and have to be reviewed.
At the sidelines of an international conference held by the Labour Party in Algiers to mark the Human Rights Day, Mr Ksentini told reporters that “the laws on media and civil society which have been approved by the Parliament require being completely reviewed, because they had been elaborated without consulting the concerned actors (journalists and civil society activists).”
The official mentioned that the actors of these two sectors should be involved in the process of the revision of the two aforementioned laws.
“For instance, the media law has not satisfied journalists; so how could it satisfy me as an activist?” wondered Ksentini.
Elsewhere, the activists revealed that his commission has submitted to President Office the report on the situation of human rights in Algeria in 2010.
