Messahel Calls For Granting Good Living Conditions For Azawadians
Foreign ministers of the African Sahel core countries have discussed in Nouakchott, Mauritania, the crisis in the north of Mali, and the possibility to carry out a military intervention to counter armed groups in the region of Azawad recently proclaimed unilateral independence from Mali.Delegate Minister for Maghreb and African Affairs, Abdelkader Messahel, told the audience that the resolution of the crisis in Mali should take into consideration claims related to the promotion of the right for better living conditions and the participation in making decisions for the Azawad populations. “This meeting intervenes with critical and worrying situation in the neighbouring and our strategic partner Mali,” Mr Messahel said, adding that “our governments have taken compatible positions that urge for a quick and effective return to constitutional rule, avoid violence and launch dialogue to reach a political and sustainable solution in northern Mali.”“The humanitarian issue stands to be on the top priorities to take care of refugees on borders,” the official said, praising efforts of Mauritania and Niger which hosted fleeing refugees despite drought that hitting these regions.Meanwhile, Niger Foreign Minister, Mohammed Bazoum, raised the threats of the chaos in Mali on the neighbouring countries, saying he congratulates the ECOWAS member countries which vowed to take military action against the rebels in Mali.
