Messahel: “Our relation with Riyadh and Washington is distinguished”

Algerian minister of Maghrebin affairs, the African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel Monday described Algeria’s relations with the US and Saudi Arabia as « distinguished,” saying they are the country’s “partners.”

“We live in a region of conflicts either in Libya or the Sahel. We got adapted to those issues,” Messahel said in a press conference.

He added that Algeria does not interfere in others’ affairs and does not accept interference in its domestic affairs as well. “Algeria is a strong State with its institutions. It is also a fair State and cares for its citizens’ concerns.”

The minister was accompanied by Syria’s economy minister Hamam Al Djazairi. He said Syria’s visit is “important” in view of its date and topic.

“The meetings between officials focused on government policies. “Algeria confirmed its support in Syrian political decision independence.”

The Syrian minister said the Algerian experience with Reconciliation is “very rich.” “In Syria, we are more confident in dealing with the crisis.”

He stressed the necessity of media communication as it ensures “how to reflect to the world the reality lived in Syria.”

“Algeria has an important experience. It gave us important documents. We are examining them and we are sure that we will benefit from the Algerian experience,” he added.

Speaking about meetings held with Algerian officials, he said they were “clear and practical.” “I was frank and clear about what we can do.”

Messahel said the Syrian crisis can be solved only with Syrian people’s will through a national and comprehensive dialogue. “That would end violence and ensure Syria’s unity, stability and sovereignty.”
