Missing cargo ship Arctic Sea rescued

The Russian Defense Minister, Anatoly Serdyukov, said the cargo ship “Arctic Sea”, which was hijacked in the Atlantic Ocean while en route to the port of Bejaia, east of Algeria, was liberated with its crew, after the intervention of the Russian Military anti-submarine ship “Ladni” without shooting.

 

 

  • The Russian military official spoke about details of the abduction of the cargo ship, saying that the kidnappers were eight citizens from Estonia and Latvia and Russia.

  • Serdyukov said in his report to the Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, that the kidnappers have stepped up to the “Arctic Sea”, and asked the crew of the cargo ship to implement all their orders otherwise they will shot them.

  • “After stopping the communication equipments, Arctic Sea continued the way set by the kidnapers towards Africa. Pirates were all arrested on board of the military ship “Ladni”, waiting for more investigation with them”, the Russian minister say.

  • A Russian newspaper reported that Arctic Sea was carrying cruise missiles type X-55 hidden inside the sawdust, and its real direction was Iran not Algeria.
