Morocco deported dozens of African illegal immigrants to the Algerian borders
Moroccan authorities conducted yesterday evening, the process of migrating dozens of migrants from sub-Saharan countries were on its territory to the border between Morocco and Algeria.
Al–Hasan al–Amari, a member of the Central Committee for Migration within the Moroccan Association for Human Rights, told AFP “I am now in the Aleb region, near the Moroccan–Algerian border, and we counted so far 168 immigrants who were deported to this area.”
“There has been a campaign during the last three days against immigrants from sub-Saharan countries, led by the customs and security forces, which resulted in the deportation of these migrants, who were living inhuman conditions, as they are thrown anywhere .”
A Moroccan security source told AFP; “Morocco has the right of Morocco to deport anyone who lives illegally on its territory under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor.”
For his part, Camara Laye, Coordinator of the immigrants’ Council from countries of the southern Sahara in Morocco; “The Moroccan authorities stormed Monday abruptly homes in the neighborhood of Takadoum and Annahda in the capital Rabat, and arrested more than 30 migrants at midday.”
“So far, the authorities have broken the doors and stormed the homes in a violent manner, where all immigrants were deported to the Moroccan–Algerian border,” he added.
“Among the 168 immigrants, who were taken to the borders, there has been adolescents and pregnant women who were ill, and who had tried earlier to storm the fence with the city of Melilla“ North East “, which belong to the Spanish authorities,” he explained.
The attempt to storm the Spanish fence left more than 75 injuries and fractures among immigrants, some of them were transferred to the hospital, while some other preferred to go to the city of Oujda fearing arrest.”.
Hisham Al–Rashidi, General Secretary of the anti–racism group and defence oçf the rights of migrants and foreigners said, “The Moroccan law does not allow the deportation of minors, pregnant women, kids biblisiters, asylum seekers and injured who can not be deportated due to the risk they may face. The Moroccan Interior Ministry is reponsible for the fate of immigrants who were deported in inhumane conditions to unsafe areas.”
“This campaign, which we have not seen since 2005, is the result of the new security coordination between Morocco and Spain in the field of the fight against illegal immigration, after the recent visit of Moroccan director of the National Security to Spain.”
