“Morocco Is Forced To Recognize SADR If It'll Join AU”

Morocco’s accession to the African Union means the full and explicit recognition of the SADR, Minister Counsellor in the Western Sahara Presidency, Lahcen Hariten, told Echorouk.

“Allegations that were reported by media about the petition that was submitted by 28 African Presidents in the current AU, about suspending the participation of the Polisario Front in the Union after its existence within its structures for 32 years”.

Polisario Front’s official described Morocco’s manoeuvre in the last African Summit, and the letter that was sent by Mohammed VI to the participants in the Rwandan capital Kigali as an “interference”. 

“Morocco came to the African summit to try to disrupt the summit, in an attempt to relieve the African pressure, and what it did is an attempt to break the isolation, as it suffers problems with neighbours, with Algeria, Western Sahara and Mauritania, and to some extent with Spain”. 

“There are pressures that it suffers in its negotiations with the United Nations, the European Union and the European Parliament. All its numerous visits that led a number of Moroccan politicians to African capitals are only tricks and methods to ease the pressure”.

“Regarding the talk about a petition that was submitted by 28 African countries to the African Union, to suspend the membership of the Polisario Front, this is a lie. We can not freeze the membership or expulsion of any member, and thus its exit is coming up voluntary,and I do not think that there are those who would ask a member to exit the Union because that would be an assault on a member state. These leaks from the Moroccan media are one of the attempts to disrupt the victories of Western Sahara”.

“Morocco’s accession to the African Union means the recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Republic, and the Polisario Front, as the sole legitimate representative of Sahrawis. Morocco left the OAU, which was built on the ruins of the African Union has conditions and laws. Thus, Morocco’s accession to the African Union is a victory for Western Sahara issue. In the case of Morocco, it is in a state of joining not return back, because there is a new space which is the African Union, as joining is a legal action, including the recognition of the content of the African Union and what is contained in the Charter of the African Union, recognizing the limits of independence and recognition of the Member States and their borders, including the Western Sahara”.

Chairman of the African Union Commission, denied, following the conclusion of the thirty-seventh summit of the African Union, in toto that the African Union summit had discussed any message or request by the Kingdom of Morocco to join the continental organization.

In the context of answering a question by some journalists on the subject of the letter of the King of Morocco to the African Union, and the merits of the discussion, she replied emphatically: “The African Union summit did not discuss any message from Morocco because it is out of the question on its agenda”, according to the Sahrawi News Agency.

Previously, Moroccan media published a set of fabricated news on the participation of a Moroccan delegation that is headed by the Foreign Minister and head of the Moroccan parliament in the top jobs, at a time when confirmed sources asserted that the whole subject has not exceeded the delivery of the head of the Moroccan parliament a message from King Mohammed VI to the President of Chad, Idriss Deby, the current Chairman of the African Union.
