Algeria has no conflict with Morocco about Western Sahara and has no claim. The issue is part of the United Nations’ prerogatives concerning decolonization and liberation of people, said spokesman for foreign ministry, in response to the French News Agency (AFP)’s report.

“Reports about an existing conflict between Algeria and Morocco about Western Sahara are weirdly misleading and I am surprised by that,” the spokesman told Echorouk.

Earlier on Monday, the AFP reported that there is a conflict between Algeria and Morocco over Western Sahara.

The spokesman said “Algeria’s position is known and it has no claim concerning Western Sahara. It works on real decolonization by enabling Sahrawi people to exercise his indisputable right in self-determination.”

The AFP’s report came ahead of French President François Hollande’s visit to Morocco.

Moroccan news agency MAP was part of a hostile campaign against Algeria through lies and rumors as UN envoy Christopher Ross visited the region and Algeria.

Algerian foreign minister Mourad Medelci confirmed that the media campaign is in contradiction with Morocco’s commitments and the two countries’ will to develop their relations.

Earlier, a senior official told Echorouk this hate campaign shows that Moroccan officials are hypocrite.

According to observers, Morocco tries to seize the opportunity of Hollande’s visit to put pressure on Ross through the “devil alliance” between Paris and Rabat against Algeria.

This “alliance” is meant to blackmail the International Community on self-determination in Western Sahara. Morocco pushes Hollande to adopt its position but some expect that the French president would not respect “Sarkozy’s commitment to autonomy.” It is likely that he would announce that the Moroccan project is no more than a suggested initiative to find a solution for the Western Sahara issue.
