Mosques set to mobilize 5 million electors by encouraging Muslims to vote in France

Mr Walid Naghas, vice President of the French Council of the Muslim Faith has stated that the Muslim community members expect many surprises in the next French presidential election, in case they prove unable to unify their ranks on the choice of an official representative serving as a single candidate with a view to safeguarding their vested interests.

Mr Naghas told “Echorouk” that the manifold rifts now characterizing the Muslim community in France could prevent them from picking out a single candidate so as to serve their interests for the sake of stability, as they originally hail from different countries and cultures and belong to different doctrines and different trends, and this, he said, may weaken their voice in the upcoming French presidential election whose outcome wouldn’t achieve the desired results.

In the absence of an active  political movement to enlighten the Muslim community, the French Council of the Muslim Faith and the Paris Mosque have been striving to prompt Muslims in France to duly exercise their electoral right by forming a  potent political weight likely to serve as a balance in favor of the best candidate, notably through the delivery of weekly  Friday sermons to this effect.

Our interlocutor added that Muslims should unite and pool their actions because the  current political stakes are directed against them, especially with the growing resurgence of the French extreme right, stressing that their strong mobilization around the most suitable candidate is a prerequisite in order to preserve the community’s vital interests.
