Bachir Deryess

In a declaration to “ Echorouk” the movie director Bachir Deryes has revealed that his collaboration with the Jewish producer Alexander Arcady in the movie “ What the night owes o the day”, based on the novel written by the Algerian writer Yasmina Khadra, was not a surprise, because the man is not a Zionist and rejects the Israeli extremism; Moreover, he bears Algeria in his heart and is a good friend of the president Abdelaziz Bouteflika, adding that 80% of the Algerian artists collaborated with Jews.

  • He went on saying that Arcady was born in Algeria and feels committed to this country and his positions are clear, that’s why he felt the need to produce an Algerian movie without any form of prejudices behind the project, likely to sully our reputation, he said. Under the terms of the contract, Deryess added, the Jewish producer cannot interfere in the script which writing is still underway.

He thus, singled out the difference between Zionism as an ideology and Judaism as religion.
  • After all, he said many artists and men of letters collaborated with the Jews, including Cheb Khaled , Mami, Rachid Boudjedra, Merzak Allouache and many others.
  • Bachir Deryess has revealed that the he will start shooting in 2010 in Oran, Mostaghanem and Al Maleh while the French crew, headed by Arcady, is due to arrive on April 20 to discuss the project along with the minister Fadhila Amara and a delegation of media professionals .
  • Arcady will stand for the charges of the projects estimated at something like 17 million Euros stressing he will not ask a penny from the >Algerian ministry of culture.
