National Council Groups Call On President Bouteflika To Stand As Candidate In April 18th Presidential Polls

The three Parliamentary Groups represented at the Council of the Nation or Upper House of Parliament (FLN, RND and the Designated Third Presidential Group) called, in a statement issued on Monday in Algiers, on the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika to stand for a new term as part of April 18th 2019 Presidential polls.

“Conscious of the importance of the next electoral event in the process of national edification and building of the rule of law launched by his Excellency the President of the Republic since his accession to power in 1999, and aware of the challenges facing the Nation and proud of the many accomplishments, achievements and profound reforms carried out in the fields of security and stability, the parliamentary groups of the Council of the Nation call on Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who’s led Algeria with wisdom and foresight in an unstable world and exposed to unavoidable dangers in terms of security, political, economic and financial matters, to continue his successful mission at the helm of the country,” said the statement.

These parliamentary groups expressed “their absolute support for his candidacy and what he could propose as complementary measures to his program in a process of deepening the democratic process, consolidating economic reforms and pursuing action in the framework of social justice”.

Expressing “their willingness to contribute to the success of the upcoming election campaign”, the parliamentary groups in the upper chamber of parliament say they have “no doubt that citizens are aware of the importance of this forthcoming electoral contest and that they will go to the polls on April 18th 2019 to cast massively their ballots in the upcoming Presidential election with a view to choosing the process of further strengthening security and peace and shoring up national development by pursuing the commitment with the Man that is (Mr. Abdellaziz Bouteflika) whose telling achievements have brought out the accuracy of the policy he has adopted over the last two decades”.
