New Judicial procedures spark wave of controversy

The new judicial procedures yesterday were put into effect amid fears among the plaintiffs about probable delays in the treatment of new cases, including the obligation to translate the judicial records into Arabic and resort to a lawyer in all cases.

•  The new law was indorsed a year ago, a delay regarded by the relevant experts as sufficient for all parties to cope with.
• According to the specialist in the constitutional legislation and senate member, Bouzid Al Azhari the problems that could be raised consist mainly in resorting to the conciliator, whose role consists in narrowing the gap between the opponents before the judge’s verdict.
• On the other hand, the lawyer Mustapha Kessentini has raised the problem of the small number of translation offices giving the example of the province of Blida, where he exercises his activity, which despite its surface area and dense population, possesses only one translation office, while 250 lawyers are operating there.
