Newspaper: Algeria extradited Chokri Belaid murderer to Tunisia
Algeria extradited Kamel Kadkadi who is accused of assassinating Tunisian opposition leader and human rights activist Chokri Belaid to Tunisia. His movements were observed by a satellite used to keep watch on borders between the two countries, said a Tunisian newspaper on Sunday.
“Belaid’s supposed killer was arrested by the Algerian authorities following information obtained through a sophisticated satellite. He was extradited to Tunisia while the examining judge was not notified by the Tunisian concerned authorities,” said Echorouk newspaper.
Although the Tunisian interior ministry denied the information, the newspaper confirmed its credibility, saying “there is no reason to falsify facts about the assassination of late Chokri Belaid. We have documents which confirm the information and other related details will be published soon.”
Earlier, Tunisian media reported that the supposed killer went to borders area with Algeria. Because of that, the Tunisian army stepped up security measures on borders and informed the Algerian authorities.
The Tunisian press published a list of nationals killed in Syria. Sources said some of them were in clashed with the Syrian army while others blew themselves up.
The issue of Tunisian fighters in Syria causes a large debate in Tunisia. Reports said their number is estimated at 12,000 while official authorities reported no more than tens of them.
