No contradiction with Prime Minister’s remarks, says Zerhouni

Algerian interior minister Nourredine Yazid Zerhouni said the government will keep the security plan relating to the presidential elections, in response to the Prime Minister’s remarks.

“I am sure that the Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia knows well that the electoral event is an extraordinary event. It would attract the remaining terrorists to carry out spectacular attacks,” Zerhouni said Tuesday in a press conference in Algiers.
-
“Because of that, we have set up an extraordinary security plan by stepping up vigilance measures and increasing the number of security agents in official institutions and public places,” he added.
-
According to Zerhouni, the Prime Minister was talking about the financial impact of those security plans.
-
“Those security measures do not cause any financial impact. They were decided in coordination with the Prime Minister,” he said.

Speaking about the US state department’s report on human rights in Algeria, the interior minister said it will not have an impact on the smooth running of the elections.
