No Driving Licenses in Algeria

Transport Ministry disrupted all the promises that were made by the Minister about providing new driving licenses after abolishing the license with points that was previously adopted, and which the state allocated 7500 billion ZDZ for it.

Citizens found themselves forced to use receipts that are granted by Dairas until an unknown date.

Various administrations notice a special influx of citizens who want to get the original copy of driving licenses, whether for those who get it for the first time or those who want to renew it, but they are chocked every time they are told that the original document that should be provided by the Transport Ministry has not yet been sent, which forced services of civil situation to extend the periods of receipts until the issuance of the new driving licenses.

Citizens accused the Interior and Transport Ministries of taking anarchical decisions that lead them to a blocked way, adding that they are the only victim, as some of them remain without driving licenses since a whole year.

In this context, Head of the National Federation of Driving Schools, Ahmed Zineddine Oudia, told Echorouk that the Transport Ministry continues taking anarchical decisions that even its officials do not understand.

“I don’t know what is the aim of creating an international driving license, by evidence even officials in the sector do nor understand that”.

“The sector is noticing a set of problems while officials are unable to find solutions but creating a new driving license without even knowing its  meaning”.

“I met with officials from the Transport Ministry in the last meeting of March and I asked them about the new international driving license but they did not provide a convincing answer. 50% of citizens who obtained a driving license are using the receipts that were  provided by administrations and this is strange”.

“Transport Ministry is wasting public money in order to realize improvisational decisions. Driving license of points cost 7500 billion ZDZ to print the documents, but the work on that stopped for many reasons like the lack of a national card for driving licenses’ holders, and the lack of standards to determine the degree of violations and the way of pointing every error. Government should have allocated that money to solve the sector’s problems”.
