NOS: Algeria counted 36.3 million inhabitants on December 31, 2010
Algerian population reaches 36.3 million inhabitants in December 31, 2010, including 50.6% males and 49.4% female, National Office of Statistics said here on Tuesday.
The office expected the rise of Algerian population in December 31, 2011 to 800.000 inhabitants, to reach 37.1 million people.
The demographic toll stemming from the exploitation of digital chart of civil status shows 888.000 news births, 157.000 deaths and 345.000 marriages in 2010.
Number of inhabitants in July 1, 2010 reached 36.0 million, while the natural growth reaches 2% (+ 731.000 people in 2010 compared to 690.000 in 2009).
The structure of population in terms of age and sex is characterized by a slight decrease in the proportion of individuals under 14, moving from 28.2% in 2009 to 27.8% in 2010.
However, the volume of people who does not accede 5 years is on the rise; moving from 10% in 2009 to 10.7% in 2010, while volumes of individuals at the age of economic activity (15 to 59) remain stable with 64.5%.
On the other hand, the category of third generation (+ 60) noticed a slight rise compared to 2009, moving from 4.7% to 7.7% (2.785.000 inhabitants).
Number of women at the age of childbearing (15 to 49) reaches 2.1 million. The year 2010 was mainly characterized with a considerable number of births, a slight decline in the number of deaths and a moderate increase in marriage.
Algeria counted 454.037 new male births and 433.773 female births, an average of 105 males for 100 girls in 2010.
In 2009, number of births rose by 39.000, representing an increase of 4.6%, therefore moving from 24.07 per thousand in 2009 to 24.68 per thousand in 2010.
The year 2010 was characterized by a decline in the number of deaths with 2000 compared to 2009, moving from 4.51% per thousand to 4.37 per thousand.
Mortality rate among kids continues the same pace noticing a decline from 24.8 per thousand in 2009 to 32.7 per thousand in 2010.
Decline in the number of deaths among kids and deaths in general had an impact on the rate of live during birth giving, which moved from 75.5% in 2009 to 76.3% in 2010.
Marriage licenses rose by 1% between 2009 and 2010, and to 3% (2008-2009).
This rise specified a new phase characterized by stagnation in the number of marriages which declined from 9.68 per thousand in 2009 to 9.58 per thousand in 2010.
