The independent unions of the public sector, decided Sunday to call a one-day general strike in the education sector coinciding with the International Day of teachers, on the fifth of October, through a protest rally to be staged by union workers outside the Ministry of Education in central Algiers.

• The independent unions considered, in their statements, that all employees of the education sector are living terrible conditions, and condemned the content of the basic law which they dubbed as “unfair”,  stressing that there is a suppression of the freedom of the associations and that the working conditions are miserable with the over-contractual system stemming from the unfair laws.
• On the other hand, the independent unions warned oagainst what they called the random reforms of the educational system, the overcrowding of the classes, the lack of the means and school programs for the pupils, classifying these deficiencies within the deterioration of the general situation of the school environment in Algeria.
