One killed, 80 Injured Due To Food Poisoning Western Algeria
El Bayadh province (western Algeria) noticed on Friday night to Saturday morning, an incident of mass poisoning that caused the death of a young man named “O.Ben Aissa”,30, and injuring 80 others, including four kids, after they ate rotten sweets.
Victims of food poisoning were taken to Mohamed Boudiaf Hospital, in El Bayadh, where the various medical services witnessed a state of alert and emergency, after registering 80 cases of food poisoning due to eating rotten sweets, according to statements that were made by patients to Echorouk, as a young man died, pending the autopsy results.
Al Bayadh province Director of Health, Ismail Ben Brahim, said that among the injured there are four kids who study at a primary school, and at the same section, adding that they confirmed that they ate sweets and soft drinks, but later they suffered fever, accompanied by vomiting, while five members of one family said they ate sweets.
Food poisoning, which caused the death of a young man, and the injury of 80 others, including children, caused a state of terror and panic among residents of the province, who feared a repeated poisoning scenario, because the toll was important.
On the other hand, the patients’ families gathered in large numbers in the hospitals, which caused harness on all the doctors and nurses, which necessitated the placement of people with intensive care, accelerating the sampling in order to conduct the necessary tests to find out the source of infection with food poisoning.
Echorouk sources said that the governor ordered an expedited investigation, and take all legal actions to arrest the perpetrators in the marketing of food that caused the poisoning, on the sidelines of his visit to the hospital of Mohamed Boudiaf.
