One Million Passengers Travelled On Algiers Metro Within A Month, Official
About one million passengers took the underground metro of Algiers since its entering into service in November, the majority of which are students and workers.
The chief executive of the Algiers Metro Enterprise, Hadbi Omar, was quoted by the Radio channel 1 as saying that “the subway line going from the Central Post Office (La Grande Post), in down town Algiers, to Hai El Badr, in the southern outskirts of the capital, has been working perfectly, as no accident or system failure was recorded, so far.
Mr Hadbi Omar admitted that the recent heavy rain poured on Algiers seeped out into the subway, without causing any damage, however.
He further mentioned that the subway is to be prepared sooner with equipments for handicaps, to facilitate them using the infrastructure.
Elsewhere, Mr Hadab said the extension works of the Metro line are underway, as the 4 km line linking Hai El Badr to El Harrach, the 6.5 line linking Hai El Badr station to Ain Naadja, in the southern outskirts of Algiers, and the 2 km line linking the Central Post Office to the Martyrs Square, in down town Algiers, will be on service as by 2014.
There have been no assaults on the passengers of the Metro, so far, thanks to the mass presence of 500 police officers and the installed 24 watch cameras, the official reassured.
