Over 1200 Algerian Illegal Immigrants Arrived To Sardinia In 2016

Number of Algerian illegal immigrants were coming back on the Italian coast, specifically the island of Sardinia, to the same levels as they were 10 years ago, as their numbers during 2016 reached 1200 illegal immigrants, who were caught by the Italian security services both before reaching the island or after embarking on land.

According to statistics of the police services of the Italian Cagliari, capital of Sardinia island, for the year 2016, which were presented by the beginning of the year, the number of Algerian illegal immigrants have returned to flow again on the coast of the island after a remarkable declining of the phenomenon during the last seven years at least.

Cagliari Police governor, Danielo Galyardi, said at a press conference that was reported by local media, that the police recorded the arrival of 1133 Algerian illegal immigrants during the past year, a figure that remains very high compared to the recent years.

“Number of boats that were seized while bringing Algerian illegal immigrants during the same period, i.e in 2016, reached 27 boats, noting that dozens of boats are found empty after the arrival of illegal immigrants to the land and their deployment in cities and communities”.

City police announced that according to local media, three boats arrived with 46 Algerian illegal immigrants with the new year celebrations, which makes the total number of Algerians who arrived to this island about 1,200.

This number is that was revealed by the Italian authorities is added to the hundreds of illegal immigrants who were monitored by the Coast Guards in the territorial waters, asserting that the statement of the Algerian Human Rights League days ago, citing statistics of the Ministry of National Defense, said that over 1206 illegal immigrants were arrested while sailing toward the other side, but this figure concerns the activity of illegal immigration along the Algerian coast and not the east only.

Number of illegal immigrants who arrived to the island of Sardinia proves that it returned to the same levels as they were 10 years ago from now, when this phenomenon noticed large spread, especially among young people, including minors.

Party of the Former Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, FORZA ITALIA called through its representatives in Sardinia for preventing the arrival of Algerian illegal immigrants to it, even by the use of force.
