Over 2000 resident doctors protest in Algiers
Algiers-Over 2000 resident doctors from various hospitals of the capital organize a sit-in here on Monday out of Bab El Oued university hospital demanding official consideration for their professional and social concerns.
In this context, representatives of the “Independent Commission of Resident Doctors” said that large numbers of Algiers resident doctors gather in this sit-in to check out results of the meeting between the Minister of Health Djamel Oueld Abbas and representatives of resident doctors.
“The commission decided to continue striking until the issuance of concrete and written decisions that respond to its social and professional demands with a minimum guarantee of service”, a spokesman Dr. Marwane Sid Ali said.
“The commission to continue dialogue with the Ministry of Health and representatives will participate in the preparation of the basic law for resident doctors. The Ministry of Health did not respond to all demands of resident doctors like the issue of civil service. Resident doctors suggest replacing the civil service in southern areas with an effective health system that ensures the formation of competent medical teams with necessary material and equipment”, he added.
Previously, the sit-in of resident doctors in front of President Office in El Mouradia suburb in Algiers, on Wednesday, turned into violent clashes with law and order forces that used force and executed arrests, as several injuries and loss of consciousness cases were reported among the protesters.
