Over 30 new specialities to be opened in Algeria University within LMD system

Informed sources revealed that more than 30 specialities will be opened within the new season 2008/2009; they said that about 30 percent of pupils who will succeed in the BAC exam will be designated to LMD new system.

  • Confirmation of what Echorouk newspaper reported in its previous numbers; most of these new disciplines will be included within the new LMD system, in which about 180 thousand university students, four years ago since the beginning of university reforms. As for the nature of the new specialities within LMD they confirmed that 80 percent of them have been developed because of the requirements of employment world and economy market (management and business administration), which forks to all university specialities, which are, management branches, commerce, industry, media, fuels and environment…in addition to new specialties creation within banking, international economic relations, computing, engineering, and public works.

  • Our sources said that development of these disciplines aimed at bridging the gap in the world of employment and work in Algeria, where Algeria has always seeks foreign expertise in such specialities, and that the policy of university reforms was built according to former students’ wishes.

  • Students will be graduated after three years, and these specialities number is subdivided to more than 1200 graduation which is the equivalent of the four years old graduation.

  • Our sources revealed also that the number of university institutions of this system will expand to more than 45 university institution across the nation.

  • It is noteworthy that LMD had been criticized many times by university organizations opposition, and criticism moved to deputies in the parliament, who asked for its change and even cancel, but experts confirmed that this system goes with the international criteria and it is not an alternative or detract the importance of the old regime which remains always distinct and open for the pupils’ wishes who will succeed in the session of June 2008.

  • Our sources also confirmed that the number of expected student who will join the old system will remain high compared to LMD system.
