Over 4.000 Neglected Algerians “Left In The Lurch” In Strife-Torn Syria

- Members of the Algerian community settled in Syria are yearning to go back to Algeria as early as possible in the hope of fleeing the devastating civil war now besetting the country.
- In the absence of an adequate taking in charge by the public authorities there, more than 4.000 Algerian nationals settled in Syria have unwittingly opted to remain in the capital Damascus and other cities despite the relentless cross-fire and heavy bombardments targeting civilian and other residential areas.
- These hapless Algerians who have been living for many tears in Syria fear for their lives and their children as well as for their hard-won property because of the unabated violence wracking most parts of the country.
- Many of them have, of late, got in touch with the Algerian foreign ministry department led by Mr Mourad Medelci via the Algerian embassy in Damascus to inform the officials there of their appalling situation in the midst of the raging wave of violence saying they have been caught in a “dangerous stranglehold” in war-torn Syria.
- Unfortunately, up to now these “Algerian hostages” who number over 4.000 and whose only wish is to find a safe haven in their mother-country Algeria, have been literally spurned and given a negative reply by the relevant authorities who argued that their situation should be dealt with by the authorities in Damascus given their lengthy stay in Syria.
