Over 4.5 million Algerians have dual citizenship
More than 4.5 million Algerians have dual citizenship of France, Canada, Spain and Germany, according to diplomatic sources.

“Most of them have French nationality due to the historical tie between Algeria and France while an increase of Canadian, Spanish and German nationality is reported,” the same sources told Echorouk.

Algerian justice and foreign ministries says they do not have exact figures about the number of the Algerians with dual citizenship.

A former minister said dual citizenship can not be limited in Western Europe. “Hundreds of Algerians were in scholarship or professional missions and they got Russian and Polish nationality.”

Algerian war veterans sound the alarm over the dual citizenship which appears on the rise. They call for holding a general debate on the topic and believe the dual citizenship is a solution to avoid expulsion as it is the case in the UK, Germany and other countries.
