Over 573 kg of drugs seized in Bejaia in one year

An assessment survey issued by the regional National Gendarmerie unit of Bejaia, east of Algeria, showed a decline in the number of crimes and offences against persons.       

• The National Gendarmerie squads dealt with 404 cases leading to the arrest of 1.210 people, including 21 women.
• The statistics show a decline in crimes in the year 2008. They reached 79.94% after they were previously set at 87.20%.
• 76 criminal cases were addressed in 2008 and 573. 24 kg of drugs including 55.1 kg of cannabis were also seized by the elements of the national gendarmerie in the region.
