Mohammed Hafedh
Speaking yesterday in a press conference on the occasion of the opening of a bank account in favour of the Pakistani people, the Pakistani ambassador to Algiers Mohammed Hafedh called on the Algerian authorities to help the 2.5 million Pakistani refugees also called “Terrorism victims†and also to assist the government to crush the Taliban rebellion waged against the regime of the Assef Ali Zerdari in the northern part of the country.

The ambassador has warned of the aggravation of the crisis in his country which led to the displacement of 2.5 million refugees forced to flee their homes and lands because of the raging battles between the governmental forces and the Taliban whom he qualified as “assassins” and “criminals” who use the Islamic religion to fulfil their personal ambitions.

He considered that Pakistan was a “victim of terrorism, not its source” because scores of innocent civilians are dying in the river of “Swatt” and the surrounding areas, adding that Algeria suffered from terrorism for years but the situation in Pakistan is worse because the country numbered 2.5 millions of refugees within a week.

The ambassador went on saying that ”terrorism” in Pakistan could stretch to other regions in the world, that’ s why the international community has to help the Pakistani authorities crush this menace, denying allegations that his country helped in the creation of the Taliban after the departure of the “Souffi” communities from the neighboring Afghanistan.

In this respect, he indicated that his country is asking for a financial aid at a level of USD 543 millions to assist the refugees and rebuild the ravaged areas. The United Nations general secretary Ban Ki Moon has demanded this amount from several countries who expressed their will to help, but so far the Pakistani government received 24% of the total sum only.

The ambassador has qualified the situation in his country as a“ terrorism” led by the Taliban which he said is working for the “creation of a nation inside another one “ in the name of Islam and by extension the destruction of a civilized country like Pakistan.
