Parents prevent their daughters from joining university night studies
Decision to extend school hours in the Algerian universities, and the programming of some night lessons to cope with the large overcrowding, caused resentment among the Algerian families,as parents decided to prevent their daughters to join the night studies and stop university studies completely, while some experts felt that the ministry’s decision was not analyzed and that it will face enormous difficulties and obstacles that do not serve the Algerian university as far as it harms it.
The decision to extend the hours of study in Algerian universities to 8:00 pm, sparked anger and criticism amid the parents of students, particularly female students, as a lot of them told Echorouk that they disagree with the ministry’s improvisational decision, which does not serve their daughters, especially since most of them do not have a car, which forced them to wait for the buses for transporting students while they are vulnerable to attacks and hazing, which makes a lot of parents think seriously of stopping the studies of their daughters after the ministry’s decision that shocked the Algerian preserve families.
Professors had not been consulted in the decision
Head of the of University Professors Syndicate, CNES, Abdelmalek Rahmani, said the decision is of the minister’s power, but he should have been consulted all stakeholders, especially professors, since they are concerned with teaching in these hours, noting that they belong to the public employment, and this latter has clear rules and forced them to work into the late hours, and this idea should have been studied closely by all the concerned.
“The idea can succeed if the necessary facilities will be provided after four or five years and not currently. Over 62% graduates are female students, making the application of this decision extremely difficult, especially since most of them belonging to the poor and middle class, and belong to Algerian preserve families.”
“This decision is a nightmare for students, although the arrangements have not yet been taken to practically apply it. Individual management may be outdated and the 2015 students do not belong to the seventies”.
