Parliament’s members ask for investigation commission on public freedoms in Algeria
A number of Parliament’s members presented a proposal to the speaker Abdelaziz Ziari to form a parliamentary commission to investigate in civil and political rights practice and public freedoms.
- Is it believable that international institutions and human rights organisations care for our citizens more and better than us?” said a release issued by the deputies.
- If created, the commission will be in charge of determining the problem of public freedoms and civil rights regression and its impact on people, institutions and the State.
- It will carry out a deep research with sectors and institutions in charge of freedom, the civil and political society and national personalities.
- The national legislation will be assessed and a report about the reality of civil rights and freedoms practice will be submitted.
- The proposal says although the Constitution adopts most of political freedoms and human rights, reality shows to public opinions that individual and collective freedoms are hit by the State’s institutions and agents.

The Parliament’s members noted a set of violations of public freedoms. Of them, there are corporal punishments, multi-form censorship without judicial decision, unjustified Internet perturbations, exaggeration in temporary prison, ban on gatherings and meetings, limited opening to public media means, repressive exclusion of some political and social proceedings.
