President Bouteflika Is The One Who Donated The Carpets To Algiers Grand Mosque
Algerian President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, has donated Iranian-made carpets to the Grand Mosque of Algiers, Abdelkader Yacine, head of the Union of Algerian Zaouias or religious schools, stated on Sunday.
Mr. Abdelkader Yacine wrote on his Facebook page saying: “The President of the Republic, Mudjahid, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, made this generous gift, as he is used to do, by offering Iranian-made carpets to the Grand Mosque of Algiers with his own money”.
“May God Almighty make this gift in the balance of his good deeds and make him enjoy good health, safety and well-being at the helm of the glorious Algerian nation”.
On Saturday, the Minister of Religious Affairs, and Endowments, Mr. Mohamed Aissa, issued an explanation denying that Iran had made a gift to the Grand Mosque project, represented by huge carpets.
According to Mr. Mohamed Aissa, “the carpets that will be laid within the Grand Mosque of Algiers are hailing from Iran, stressing they had been donated by a high-profile Algerian personality with his personal money under a formal gift to the Treasury which earmarked to this effect millions of dollars for the purchase of these big carpets” without revealing however the identity of this generous donor.
The minister also said that “the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments received the first of batch of these carpets, made up of from 539 pieces at the end of 2014, in a contractual framework with the Waqfs or Endowments Foundation”.
