General Cherif Zerad, head of preparation department in the National Popular Army, Tuesday supervised the opening of a technical workshop held in Algiers. It deals with a project to establish a national facility for geospatial information.

General Cherif stressed the importance of the project, saying “no doubt, the geospatial information facility’s pivotal role is reflected in a better vision. It comes as part of development policies to ensure more efficiency of all the public interest-related actions. This would achieve sustainable development goals.”

According to a communiqué released by the national defence ministry, the workshop dealt with the project technical and legal aspects. It will be conducted with the help of foreign experts.

A national commission will be created to be in charge of the project and supervising two sub-commissions (technical and legal). They will be led by the National Council of Geographic Information, said the release.

It added that the National Council of Geographic Information is a geographic thinktank in Algeria.
