RCD dissident members to found new political party

A group of executives and dissident activists of the RCD party led by Said Saadi prepare for holding regional meetings, which were earlier postponed because of the presidential election campaign.

  • The meetings will culminate in the signing of a national convention meant to include two main points, holding a founding meeting for the unity of the party, or declaring a new political party that would replace the RCD.
  • According to a former leading member of the Rally for Culture and Democracy, Djamel Ferdjellah the preparation for a national agreement started a few weeks ago through the holding of consultations between the members, through regional meetings in Algiers, Annaba, Oran and Bejaia, after they had been postponed because of the elections.
  • “The aim of these regional meetings is to gather all the executives and members who were previously compelled to leave the RCD because of their disputes with the party leadership after they rejected the idea of conducting the party outside the framework of genuine democratic principles.
  • Executives and members of the RCD fear  the administration would refuse to give them the licence to found a new alternative political party in view of it’s refusal to give licence to other new political parties by the Ministry of Interior for 10 years now, that’s why they chose another option which is to hold a founding meeting which would bring together the RCD dissident members and executives.
