Repentant terrorists conduct campaign to stop terror in Algeria

Former commanders of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) determined a road map for the next step to reactivate the endeavour of the National Reconciliation via an awareness-raising campaign among terror support cells.

They stressed the necessity of social care for repentant terrorists, saying the security system in Algeria changed and President Abdelaziz Bouteflika took courageous measures which must be backed.

Three former senior members of the GSPC organised a news conference in Algiers last week and presented the main points of the National Reconciliation initiative launched by Hassan Hattab, founder of the group.

Abdelkader Ben Messaoud said many of GSPC leaders are not convinced in its current situation and they were against its affiliation to Al-Qaeda under the leadership of Droudkel.

“I talked to GSPC from Mali, Mauritania and Niger. They told me they joined Droudkel’s group under the cover of Al-Qaeda’s temptations.”

Chief of the medical commission, Abu Zakaria said the main hindrances of the armed people are the administrative ones. “If these people trust in authorities to provide social care for them within two years, none of them will stay in the mountains.”

He added that President Bouteflika said doors will stay open. “That’s positive. After five years, we will see tangible results and the general amnesty will come up with a safe life.”
