Representatives of Algerian unemployed protest in Algiers
Some 30 youth belonging to the National Committee for Defending Rights of Algerian Unemployed gather here on Sunday in Algiers 1st May square demanding rights for jobs on Workers’ Day.
Protesters were shouting; “Let us fight to get jobs”, “Fight until eradicating unemployment” and “Dignity, dignity”.
Youth come from various Algerian cities, especially from Ouergla(south), Bejaia and Tizi Ouzou (east of Algeria) in order to send a message, on behalf of all Algerian unemployed, to the public authorities demanding their rights as citizens to get decent life, houses and jobs.
The spokesman of the Committee Samir Larbi said that unemployed ask for a grant of 50% out of the national minimum monthly wage for job seekers and raising it to 30.000 dinars, and prevent economic removal from companies.
They also ask for freedom of expression and organizing strikes and protests and improving the quality of public services through involving all unions in preparing a new labor law.
After an hour of protests amid strict control by police, protesters dispersed in calm.
