Russia Keen to Boost the Strategic Agreement with Algeria

Russia wants to develop its relations with Algeria by taking practical steps to translate the strategic agreement signed by the two countries’ presidents into reality, the Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Volodin Vyacheslav Victorovich, said.

“The distance cannot be an obstacle to the political will to strengthen this relationship in light of promising cooperation prospects” the Russian official affirmed.

This statement came during his reception, on Monday, by the chairman of the National People’s Assembly, Brahim Boughali, as part of a one-day official visit, NPA published.

“During the meeting, the two parties reviewed the reality and prospects of bilateral relations between the two countries and stressed the need to strengthen and develop them to reach the level of political will of the leadership of the two countries,” the same source explained.

Boughali praised, on this occasion, the strength and roots of relations between Algeria and Russia throughout history, considering the visit made by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to Russia last year and the announcement of a broad strategic partnership between the two countries, as evidence of the excellence that characterizes these relations.

In the same context, the chairman of the council, Brahim Boughali, stressed that this strategic agreement would form a basis for developing and strengthening relations between the two countries in various fields, especially at the economic, academic and cultural levels, expressing his confidence that the two countries possess all the capabilities and opportunities to raise these relations to higher levels.

At the international level, he highlighted the importance of strengthening consultation between the two countries on issues of common concern and coordinating positions in international forums, reaffirming Algeria’s firm positions on just causes worldwide, most notably the Palestinian and Western Sahara issues.

For his part, the Speaker of the State Duma stressed the importance of strengthening bridges of consultation, exchange of experiences and visits between the parliaments of the two countries, considering that this meeting will give a strong impetus to parliamentary relations and will contribute to developing relations between the two countries at various levels.
