Saâdane: “We have made a great leap forward towards 2010 World cup finals”

National team coach Rabah Saâdane has said that Algeria's victory (1-0) over Zambia last Sunday night as part of the combined qualifiers for the 2010 World cup and Africa cup of nations competitions, has allowed the “Fennecs” to make a great leap forward towards the 2010 world cup finals.

Taking the floor during a press conference held yesterday in Algiers, Rabah Saâdane stressed that the Algeria football squad should now manage accordingly the rest of the competition, notably the next confrontation versus Rwanda.

“We have now clinched our qualifying ticket for the Africa cup of nations, after an absence of 4 years from the competition; now, we should pursue our task steadily in order to go to the World cup contest in South Africa with flying colours”, he said.

Regarding last Sunday’s qualifying fixture versus Zambia, Rabah Saâdane affirmed that the match was quite difficult for the Greens as the Zambians came here to pull out all the stops.

“The Zambian squad have nothing to lose during this grueling confrontation”, he explained.

To this effect, the national team coach announced that he would call up a new Algerian player, namely Hassan Yebda from the English Premier league squad of Portsmouth to make up for the absence of seasoned Yazid Mansouri in the midfield.
