Safia is Algerian, says lawyer
Lawyer Fatma Zohra Ben Braham
Lawyer Fatma Zohra Ben Braham put forth on Tuesday all the evidence to prove the Algerian nationality of the girl Safia, saying the main proof is the rejection of DNA test by the French father.
-
“I am a law woman. I don’t politicise things. Safia is not Algeria and Sharlbook is not France. Politics are politics and the right is a right,” Ben Braham said during a news briefing.
-
She added that Safia’s birth certificate has no evidence. “It is written on it that Safia was born at home on December 10 in 2001 while she was actually born in a hospital.
-
She believes that Safia is Algerian and her mother was on her six month pregnancy when she married the French man.”
-
“We will not allow anyone to talk about the French nationality because all what the French father is talking about is just a lie. I will follow up the case till the end to prove that Safia is Algerian indeed.”
-
The lawyer blamed the French consul for saying he can not oblige the French father to undergo the DNA test.

Lawyer Berbache says the main cause behind this “tragic case” is the “procedures error.” He held the judge responsible for banning the marriage certificate between the Algerian man and Safia’s mother. “It is a violation of the Islamic law.”
