Former leader of Algeria’s RCD party Said Saadi Tuesday raised doubts about the existence of a real conflict between power wings and warned against the “fabricated battles” trap.

Saadi said he is not against Bouteflika’s candidacy for the presidential elections due to be held in April but he is against the Constitution violation to be a “president forever.”

He also believes that the “political game” in Algeria is not just “closed” but was totally “frozen” by the regime.

After two years of silence, the RCD’s former Secretary General described the situation in Algeria as “ridiculous and catastrophic,” saying he is not retired but neutral. “As an Algerian citizen, I am worried about the serious situation in the country.”

“This situation was expected: an authoritarian political system which has established itself since the independence through a coup and imposed itself by cheating elections,” he told Liberté newspaper in an interview.

“Today, we see young people with new mentalities and references. The international community realized that dictatorship does not ensure stability. The Algerian regime rejects this. Our country is not just suffering from a political crisis but from a historic blockage,” he added.

Speaking about corruption cases in Algeria, Saadi said the regime will never open investigations in the cases of the East-West Motorway, medicines, public works and hydrocarbons.

Speaking about media battles about the conflict between security forces and the President’s Office, he said there is no “real conflict between Bouteflika and the intelligence department.”

Asked about remarks of the FLN’s Secretary General Amar Saadani who criticized the intelligence department chief, Saadi said he does not know that man but he has the right to ask for security forces’ achievement.
