Salafist religious trend warns against covert plots to destabilize Algeria

Twelve men of religion as well as prominent Islamologists and specialists in the field of Charia or Islamic law headed by the widely-known Cheikh Ali Ferkous from the Salafist trend have warned the Algerian people against what they called as the looming danger of the “fitna” or discord which could imperil the integrity, the cohesion and the stability of the country.

In an awareness-raising communiqué issued on Tuesday evening, these Islamic scholars exhorted the Algerian people to close ranks and to unite further by showing a sense of wisdom and solidarity in order to face up efficiently to any attempted discord and division within the homeland by “certain malevolent quarters of potential wrongdoers” on the occasion of the upcoming decisive presidential elections in Algeria.

They also recalled in this connection the awful situation now besetting certain Islamic countries because of what they called as”the nefarious seeds of fitna or discord” which wreaked havoc and turmoil in their trail.
