Salafist trend partisans in Algeria unanimously called for boycotting the presidential elections due to be held in April. Of them, Cheikh Ali Mohamed Ferkous, Abdelmalek Ramdani, Lazhar Snigura and Abdelghani Ouissat.

Islamists described the electoral process as a pretext to deviate from religion.

“As for religion’s vision about democratic regimes with their different ways, they are part of shirk [sin of practicing idolatry or polytheism],” said Ferkous.

The Salafists did not mention any name as no Islamist activist run for office. They do not allow talking about Abdelaziz Bouteflika as he is Algeria’s President and a candidate as the same time.

The Salafists also do not allow talking about politics and public affairs if this would promote Islamic trends or criticize rulers.

They oppose elections but they announce their support to the elected president once the results are announced. However, they criticize Islamic candidates before and after elections.
