Samy Derres (20) started his football career in the glorious French club Lyon alongside Ben Zemma and Ben Aarfa then moved to the Italian AS Rome to land in Sienna, but unfortunately he was injured immediately after the signature of the contract with his new club, delaying his debut in the Italian league. In a interview to “Echorouk” the player announces his strong desire to play to the Algerian squad noting that Zidane unique.

  • Q: Would you please introduce yourself to the Algerian fans?
  • A: My full name is Samy Derres, I’m 20 I live in Paris but my origins go back to the province of Oran (western Algeria). I’m a midfielder.
  • Q: What about your professional career?
  • A: the beginning was the neighborhood club “ Bontin” in Paris suburbs, then “Mont Rouge” after signing to FC Paris. In 2002 I moved to Olympic Lyon center and joined the U 15.
  • Q: How long was your experience with Lyon?
  • A: I played for two years then decided to move to the second league club “Amiens”
  • Q: So you played alongside Ben Zemma?
  • A: Yes, actually Ben Zemma and Ben Aarfa were my team mates for two years and my relationship with Ben Zemma with Ben Zemma is excellent, he’s the sole Algerian player with whom I kept in touch in France because I didn’t have the opportunity to meet others.
  • Q: How did you end up in the Italian League?
  •  
  • A: It goes back to 2006 when I took part to an international tournament in northern France with “Amiens”, one of AS Rome managers talked to my father and raised the possibility to make tests in Rome.

  • Q: what was your response?
  •  
  • A: Of course I accepted, but I had to finish the season with my club, in 2007 I moved to Rome.
  •  
  • Q: How was your experience with AS Rome?
  •  
  • A: Unfortunately I haven’t given the opportunity to play with AS Rome, especially that the club had a player like Toti, but I took part to several friendly matches on top of them against “Regina”.
  • Q:  How did you quit AS Rome?
  • A: the coach Di Rossi asked me to carry on my experience with the club’s second team but turned down the offer and resorted to move to Sienna with the aim to snatch a place among the “A” team.

  • Q: So how did you get in touch with this club?
  •  
  • A: The head coach Maraldinni was chasing me, and took part in the first fixtures, but on view of mitigated results, the club’s administration fired him and was replaced by another coach who put on the bench.

  • Q: Do you feel satisfied with your experience with Sienna?
  •  
  • A: While I was trying to impose myself among the group, I was seriously injured at the ankle during a training session and was forced to stop playing before term. At the present time I’m treating it in Paris and thanks God I completely recovered and will kick the ball again at earliest.

  • Q: do you intend to stay in Sienna?
  •  
  • A: My contract goes to June 2009, and I don’t know whether I will carry on or leave?
  •  
  • Q: do you have other opportunities elsewhere?
  •  
  • A: I have some touches in Italy and France alike but the most serious contact comes from the second League club “Tristinna”.

  • Q: Where there any attempts to join you to one of the French squads’ junior categories?
  •  
  • A: One of the officials at the French Football Associations got in touch with me to play to the French U 17 but I wasn’t interested at all.

  • Q: Does it mean that you are waiting a sign from the Algerian coach?
  •  
  • A: I’m eager to receive an offer from the Algerian football Association.
  •  
  • Q: So are against the idea to play to the French squad?
  •  
  • A: I’m Algerian and cannot play but to my country
  •  
  • Q: What do you think of those who chose to play to the French squad?
  •  
  • A:  They are free to do what they want, they think they can copy Zine Eddine Zidane , whom I consider the best player of all time, but he’s unique
