Scrapping of 8 thousand “fake” architects across Algeria
The chairman of National Council of Algerian architects, Djamel Chorfi, announced in the western city of Mostaganem, on the sidelines of the ceremony to allow for the professional oath-taking for about 338 new architects, who joined the professional activity after their graduation, new incentive measures endorsed by Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal together with the Minister of Housing, town planning and the city, Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the benefit of the National Council of Architects.
These governmental incentive measures are designed to put an end to the domination of foreign offices involved in the construction sector and public works projects regarding the feasibility studies in order to encourage national talents, and to better regulate this vital sector of activity with notably the setting up of the National Committee in charge of the renovation of old buildings across the national territory and most particularly in the big urban centers.
The head of the National Council of Algerian architects was reassuring about the future of those specialized people, as this sector of activity comprises about 7 thousand architects within the updated national map drawn up by the National Council, stressing that the latest “cleansing” process of the roster has led to the writing off of about 8 thousand failing and dubious architects across the country, out of an overall number of 15 thousand architects registered nationwide.
Mr Chorfi described such a “cleansing” process as historic, saying it led to the scrapping from the lists of a large group of “parasites and opportunists”, who abused the noble ethics of the profession.
