Security forces evacuate western coasts following disclosure of a terrorist plan
A security checkpoin west of Algeria

Algerian families who were camping along the coast extending from Tiapaza locality, west of Algiers, until Chlef, west of Algeria, were obliged to finish their holidays after the security services disclosed a terrorist plan targeting these families, particularly in the western regions of Tipaza, as most of the beaches have been evacuated a few days before the deadline for camping as a preventive measure to avoid terrorist attacks which may target the holidaymakers.

  • In a related matter, two gendarmes were seriously injured Saturday following explosion of a roadside bomb in Tsalast beach in Tigzirt, Tizi Ouzou, east of Algeria.
  • Local sources said the bomb was placed near a post of guards belonging to the national gendarmerie, following the Dauphin plan for the summer season.
  • The roadside bomb blew up at about 12:30 pm, the period of time which noticed a large activity by the holidaymakers, including immigrants and outsiders.
  • Families of the staff of the Algerian oil company Sonatrach were camping in the region of Boucheghal, in Tenes, west of Algiers, left the place last weekend, while they were supposed to finish their camping days on July 18. Families who were camping in Beni Haoua, Oued Bousken and Guoraia, west of Algiers, left their camps as well.
  • “At night we were informed by the officials to leave the place by the early hours of the morning for security reasons without giving further details”, families told Echorouk.
  • According to information available to Echorouk, massages related to the threat of liquidation and murder were sent by a terrorist group in case families do not leave the camp, as these families insisted to stay there despite the terrorist attack of Eddamous, east of Tipaza, because there were security forces including gendarmes and municipal guards to ensure security of the beaches, under the dolphin plan which aims to secure the summer season, armed forces were deployed along the beaches as well, particularly those located in isolated areas where citizens go out at night.
  • Sources told Echorouk that terrorist movements have been registered in the western areas of Tipaza, west of Algiers, likely belonging to terrorists who are active in the GSPC or AQIM under the leadership of Abdelmalek Droudkel or Abou Mossab Abdelouadoud, who adopted the terrorist attack which killed 14 soldiers in Beni Milek in Tipaza, west of Algiers.
  • These procedures, according to observers, are preventive, as the security services have information about the attempt of the terrorist group to target this family summer camps which are a barrier before the movements of its fellows, as well as targeting the security services and the few municipal guards deployed in the beaches.
  • Terrorists, also try to lift the siege on their group which was imposed by the army several weeks ago.
