Security forces on high alert during Ramadhan

Unlike millions of Algerians, army troops in duty break their fasting quickly with some dates and milk in addition to a cold meal ready to resume their fight against herds of terrorist in various parts of the country.

• At the moment where families gather around the table to break fasting, security forces in remote regions of the country keep watch and stay in alert to fend off criminal acts, especially during this month where terrorists, traffickers and other criminals intensify their activities.
• Ramadhan for security forces means extra work and higher vigilance by contrast; they cannot attend late prayers at mosques nor spend time among their families during this holly month.
• While troops in the barracks try to create somehow a family- like atmosphere inside and go to cafés outside after duty, their fellow troops on duty in the mountains and different checkpoints have not this privilege because they are summoned to raise vigilance and keep alert.
• Some of them revealed to “Echourok” that the military command provided them with makeshift kitchens and soldiers turn for a period of time to cooks.
• One of them has declared to “Echourok” that the job is done normally and shifts are changing on regular basis, but insisted on the fact that the soldiers have to be on the highest alert one hour before and after fast-breaking, because the terrorist take advantage of this time slot to carry out their criminal acts.
• All of them agreed on the fact that Ramadhan has to be spent in family but they try to do their best to create this jovial atmosphere in the barracks. One of them added that he feels some moral comfort when citizens offer them bread and fruits from time to time.
