Security report: 130 terrorists including 11 ringleaders killed in five months

Statistics, available to Echorouk, show that counter-terrorism operations in Algeria resulted in the killing of 130 terrorists who were eliminated in ambushes and military strikes in less than five months, including leaders and former members of the terrorist groups as well as two suicide bombers, and more than 50 weapons type Kalashnikov and Semenov were recovered, many main strongholds in the central regions were destructed as well.

  • The same statistics reveal that search operations by the Algerian armed troops since the beginning of the year in the main strongholds of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat or AQIM under the leadership of Abdelmalek Droudkel (Abou Mosaab Abdelouadoud) in the central regions like Tizi Ouzou, Boumerdes, Tipaza, Blida, as well as other military operations in the eastern regions such as Tebessa, Bejaia, Batna, Khenchla and Oued Souf. Algerian security forces also carried out military operations in the western regions like Tissemsilet and Sidi Belabess which resulted in the killing of two terrorists.
  • Terrorists who were killed were leaders in the Salafist Group and former terrorists who have long experience of more than 12 years in the mountain. These significant results were realized after planned and organized ambushes and not during the clashes and clean-up operations, on the basis of information available to the security services which were able to penetrate the terrorist organization.
  • Droudkel’s terrorist group has lost, since the beginning of this year, more than 11 leaders including “Omar Ben Titraoui” nicknamed “Abou Khoutheima”, leader of Al Fatah battalion, considered the strongest and most dangerous terrorist group after “Al Ansar” battalion, then “Ahmed Balaid” (Abou Souleiman) leader of the medical committee and former terrorist, Issa Deles (Abou Hicham) leader of Acham sub-battalion, Soufiane Kersad, leader of Ben Choud sub-battalion, Mouheb Yousef, leader of Ennour battalion, Touhami Souheil (Abou Houtheifa), leader of Al Fatah sub-battalion, the so called “H.Y.Deguol” leader of Hammam Melouane region in Blida, west of Algeria, Mourad Mesrour, leader of Al Ansar battalion successor of the nicknamed Ben Touati Ali, who surrendered few months ago, as well as the leader of Beghlia sub-battalion “R.Moussa” (Abdelkader), leader of Boubrak sub-battalion “B.Karim”(Okba).
  • An official security report shows how the security forces tightened the siege on the terrorist group which reflects the relative calm particularly in the main strongholds that are situated in the central regions and in particular the absence of suicide attacks which were adopted by the terrorist group since April 2007, after the elimination of the most prominent planners and masterminds of this type of terrorist attacks.
  • The report gave details about Ali Ben Touati (Amine Abu Tamim) leader of Al Ansar battalion, who surrendered few months ago, saying that he is a military commander and mastermind of the majority of suicide attacks after the killing of Zouheir Harrak (Soufiane Fassila) leader of the second region.
  • It also pointed to the intensification of the security operations to combat terrorism and how they put pressure on terrorists in their main strongholds and monitor their movements resulting in the elimination and arrest of many terrorists including leaders.
