Security services arrest 8 people including FFS members in Berriane
Security forces during Berriane riots
Eight people were detained Sunday for involvement in the recent riots in Beriane, Ghardaia, south of Algeria, following their arrest by the national gendarmerie which launched a campaign of control and inspection among families that are suspected of involvement in Beriane clashes; they were also accused of gathering, possession of arms, wilful assaults and destruction of the public properties as well as attacking members of the security services.

Local sources said the security forces are supported by the intervention groups belonging to the national gendarmerie, which conducted 12 inspection operations in houses of the suspects in many neighbourhoods, and popular cities, where they seized knives and Molotov bottles which were prepared for use in the attacks.

The national gendarmerie recorded the escape of many suspected following the campaign of detention which resulted in the arrest of 52 people, who were transferred to justice.

Echorouk sources said 4 people were arrested Saturday night, they belong to the members of the Socialist Forces Front “FFS”, now they are facing investigation on charges of involvement in moving the recent events in Berriane following confessions by the detainees.

Previously, members of the FFS party were arrested in the same events, owning inflammatory publications and computers as well as other means which help rising the conflict in the region.
