Security services dismantled a network for smuggling weapons from the Sahel region

Informed sources told Echorouk that the security services of El Oued, south of Algeria, arrested last week end a network that was securing various kinds of weapons coming from the Sahel regions for the GSPC or AQIM.

  • The back up cell which is composed of three persons aged between 25 and 40, were arrested after one of them committed a sexual abuse against his friend’s daughter, that’s why this latter decided to revenge and reveal the secret to the security services, which entered their cache of arms, a stable belonging to one of them.
  • Security services seized four rifles, and sniper guns, two pistols, as well as various types of weapons.
  • The same sources said that the seized weapons were brought from the Sahel African countries including, Mali and Niger via Tamenrasset and Illizi, south of Algeria, by the Emir Abdelhamid Essoufi, one of the leaders in the GSPC.
  • The weapons were directed to Tebessa, east of Algeria, for distribution across the different localities of Algeria, particularly, in the central and eastern regions.
