Security situation is improving in Algeria: Italian ambassador says
The Italian ambassador to Algeria, Giampaolo Cacci stated that the new government led by Silvio Berlusconi vowed to fight against illegal immigration.

In a declaration to “Echourouk”, this one added that the laws passed by the Italian parliament will be fully implemented. The ambassador went on saying that the Italian towns grew tiny for scores of illegal immigrants and that his country fears troubles linked to security owing to successive waves of arrivals of illegal immigrants to its southern shores.

As to the Algerian position towards this phenomenon, the ambassador said that the Algerian authorities showed great readiness to tackle this issue, referring to the last visit paid by the Algerian president to Sardinia during which he discussed the matter with the former Italian Prime Minister, Romano Prodi where several resolutions came out.

As to the security situation in Algeria, the ambassador replied that Algeria crossed a big step towards normalization and that terrorism is in a steady retreat in comparison with past years except, as he said, some isolated regions in the country.

The return to normalcy, the ambassador declared, will encourage his government to promote bilateral cooperation especially in the sectors of industry and tourism.

In this respect, the ambassador revealed that his country is focussing on three major seaside towns namely, Algeria, Oran and Annaba calling for boosting economic exchange between Algerian and Italian companies.
