Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal said Algeria is not a country of minorities but a unified country with constitutional institutions, an active government and a strong army.

Sellal’s remarks come in response to a recent statement issued by Algeria’s former head of government Mouloud Hamrouche who said there is a problem of minorities in the country.

“Algerians are unified people and believe in the same future,” said the Prime Minister in the province of Illizi (south of Algeria).

“There is no differentiation between people in the north and the south. There is no hostility between the Algerian people. Algeria is a tolerance and reconciliation country. Its unique preoccupation is to preserve its safety,” he added.

He also said the situation is worrying and Algeria is living in a difficult environment in view of security threats in the Sahel and neighboring countries.

He believes that the only solution for Algerians is to solve their problems through dialogue.
