Abdelmalek Sellal, Algeria's Prime Minister

Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal critisized allegations about President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s health state, saying they hit his credibility.

Earlier on a visit to the province of Laghouat (south of Algeria), Sellal swore that the president’s health condition is improving. Yet, some media reports in Algeria and abroad said the opposite.

“How can they not believe me while they trust foreign reports as if it is the Holy Quran,” he said in a cultural center in the province of Batna (east of Algeria) on Wednesday.

This comes as a French weekly newspaper reported that Bouteflika’s health state is not going well.

“The president is human being. He can fall ill as any other person. He underwent treatment and he is feeling good now,” said Sellal.

“When I say the president is doing good, I mean it. We do not need to issue a daily circular about his health state,” he added.

Speaking about the State’s encouraging mechanisms in favor of young people, he said young people should benefit from employment advantages offered by the government.

“Subcontracting market will enable young people to acquire more experience and find more opportunities of success.”

The prime minister visited a cultural and sports complex in Batna. He ordered people in charge of the center to create a cybercafé which would be opened until midnight.

“Usually, social media networks become active after 10 pm. Because of that, the center should be open until midnight,” he said.
