Separatists support evangelists in Algeria: report

Separatists support evangelists in Algeria: report

Local influential personalities and members of some secular parties and separatist movements played a significant role in evangelisation in Algeria's eastern Kabylia region, according to an official report.

  •
  • Lay people and separatists support Protestants
  •
  • The Catholic mission in North Africa and members of the Protestant Church directly linked to colonisation hegemony in the region are behind the evangelisation campaign against Muslims in Algeria, says the report.
  • “They have different ways of working but their goals are common.”
  • According to the same report, those factions are working on finding appropriate religious context to launch a separatist project meant to shake Algeria’s national unity.
  • A number of influential personalities in some secular parties and separatist movements supported those evangelist plans. Many of them are working on providing the evangelists with all necessary means to use what they call religious freedom as pressure on the Algerian State.
  •
  • Five foreign departments, four priests and sects
  •
  • The report says five foreign departments are working on evangelisation in Kabylia region. They are based in Switzerland, France, Malta and Italy.
  • According to the same source, a total of 25 people including four foreign priests organise religious meetings in churches in Tizi Ouzou (150 km east of Algiers). Some local officials help them by turning their houses and offices into churches.
  •
  • 33 illegal churches at houses and shops
  •
  • Various evangelist sects turn houses, garages and shops into religious places. A total of 33 illegal churches are operating in Tizi Ouzou. Five of them are located in Ait Bouadou area.
  • Evangelists exploit the lack of local development and the bad social conditions to tempt people and incite them to convert into Christianity.
