President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence has affirmed the need for the Council of Ministers to exclusively authorise the allocation of funds for the manufacture and import of automobiles.

He also praised and welcomed the investors of credible projects working to establish a genuine automobile industry, considering this the safest approach to breaking with the dark history of some fraudsters who operated in this sector before 2019.

During his chairing of a cabinet meeting that addressed two draft laws on the prevention and fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism and the protection of natural persons in the processing of personal data, the President stressed the urgent need to include qualified Algerian subcontracting companies in various specialties in the automotive industry as a prerequisite. He ordered the opening of the field to national industrial companies in the fields of automotive, electricity and spare parts.

He emphasised that the strategic goal is to lay the foundations for a truly emerging mechanical industry through the automotive industry projects underway, to contribute at least 12% to the gross domestic product.

Following the Prime Minister’s presentation on Monday of the government’s activities over the past two weeks, as well as the ministers’ contributions to the agenda, the President of the Republic issued orders, instructions, and directives.

At the beginning of the meeting, after studying and discussing the draft on the prevention and combating of money laundering and the financing of terrorism, and the draft on the protection of natural persons in the processing of personal data, the Council of Ministers approved the two drafts.

The council took into account the directives of the President of the Republic, who emphasized that Algeria has established strict controls and oversight mechanisms to combat corruption in all its forms, especially after making significant strides in combating all types of crime, particularly those related to financial matters, and also in the area of personal protection.

Regarding firefighting measures, the President ordered heightened vigilance during the coming weeks, which will be characterised by high temperatures, and that extreme caution and care be exercised during harvesting operations. He also ordered the mobilisation of all resources and the coordination of all efforts to work proactively to prevent any potential fire outbreaks.
